The season approaches.
So as we all prepare our selves for the new season, I look at St. Albans City's chances for the coming season.
Some may know about our quite difficult financhial issues which have threatened the club and is hanging a shadow over the club, we owe money to some companys and don't have much our selves, but this has all come about because of our stupid chairman!
Now onto the pitch, the squad looks quite good! it is not much different from last season and we have kept a lot of key players, there are a few players who are still to sign on but it is expected they will.
Our midfield is possibly our strongest part with Sheilds, L.Thurlbourne and Fisher who are all good players. (Fisher and Shields are still to sign) We also have the experienced Hunt in midfield and several others, including trialists.
Our back 4 looks ok with the large and experienced Frater, Bailey, Everitt also our Assistant Manager Mark Peters who can play at CB and there is also Mitchell and J. Thurlbourne along with a few others.
Of course we have the Experinced Paul Bastock in goal whi is a supreme shot stopper and will really help the team with his encouragment and presence.
Up front is where we have a few issues with only really Gary Cohen and only really Inih Effiong (Who just came out the reserves for a few games last season) with Chillingworth (Who i have not seen much of) there is also O’Donoghue who has looked good in pre-season, there is also Roberts who has also looked ok in pre-season, there are a few others as trialists too.
Our pre-season has looked like this-
Peterborough United (H) Lost 1-4.
Harlow Town (A) Lost 4-2.
Brackley Town (A) Won 1-0.
Watford (H) Lost 4-1. (We played pour reserves/Trialists in this match)
Leyton Orient (H) Won 2-0.
Hemel Hempstead Town (A) Drawn 2-2.
Bedford Town (A) Playing tonight(Tuesday August 4th and will be a team full of reserves/trialists)
The highlight of pre-season was a very good win over Leyton Orient who had 5 first team players in their team, goals came from Cohen and
O’Donoghue.
We really need a good start to the league season, so a opener against Dorchester Town Away could provide us with that, the rest of August looks like this-
Sat 8 15:00 A Dorchester Town
Tue 11 19:45 H Worcester City
Sat 15 15:00 H Eastleigh
Tue 18 19:45 A Welling Untd
Sat 22 15:00 H Lewes
Sat 29 15:00 A Bishop's Stortford
Mon 31 15:00 H Hampton & Richmond B
Not an easy month but should be good and entertaning, with our first home game vs Worcester City and our final game of the month at Home On (On my Birthday) the 31st August against Hampton and Richmond.
So that was my preview to the new season in my first blog.
Thanks for reading, Jake.
