Miracle at t'Park.
As a devoted fan of St Albans City FC, I have seen a lot, even in the just the past ten years. I have seen us be one step away from a day out at Wembley, seen us be placed into the newly formed Blue Square South, and seen us reach the pinnacle of the club's history - a year of in the Conference.
But this latest saga at the club is right up there with that as one of St Albans' biggest moments - but on the other end of the scale. To say this season has been difficult would be an understatement, but that doesn't mean to say it has all been negative.
The summer brought uncertainty over the club's finances, and over the club's future. Would we even be able to field a side this year? Owner John Gibson's business had gone into administration, and rumour had it that we were about to follow.
But we did make it to the grid, and we have been strangely comfortable since then. But that is on the field. Off it, there has been a cloud of discomfort hanging over the club. The setting up of the club's Saints City Trust has been positive, but the Chairman's open-letters have shown that they do not quite get along famously. Having said that, the only thing the Trust has been looking to do is move on and forward and maintain the future of the club.
The subject of their arguments was over whether the Trust should pay a certain amount of their money to the club in order to aid the playing budget. With the matter unresolved as of mid-March, John Gibson announced budget cuts to the shoestring funds Steve Castle already has to work with.
And yet we continue fighting. After today's win over Thurrock, we are only five points off of the playoffs. Who knows? With the positive revolution of the Trust this season has been exciting. With the in-fighting this season has been discomforting. With the financial struggles we have had, this season has been difficult. Already the season has been up there with the promotion year of 05-06, as Steve Castle works wonders with a side of honest, hard working players.
Going into the final month of the season, could we be in store for a miracle?
