Weston Super Mare 3 Bromley 3 – BSS – 2/03/10
Despite several media outlets reporting this game had been postponed luckily for the faithful Bromley fans who travelled down to the Somerset coast the match did go ahead and they saw The Ravens battle back from three down and nearly win the game at the end.
With Bromley looking a little rusty from the long coach journey Weston got off to the perfect start when they took the lead on 3mins, when a deep cross from the left was bundled over the line by Burrell. Bromley battled back and did pose an attacking threat, but they were unable to break through the very solid home defence who worked incredibly hard all night. Both sides had chances as the half went on with Clarke and Burrell going close for Weston and McBean seeing a fierce shot from a tight angle tipped over by Sawyer at the other end.
The second half saw The Ravens get off to an attacking start with McBean & Heniruqes having efforts cleared off the line from a corner, but they fell 2-0 behind when a soft looking shot from Evans after a good run went straight through Williams hands and into the net on 58mins. Unbowed Bromley continued to press with Carew and Hall causing the Weston defence lots of problems, but The Seagulls went three up on 66mins when Burrell latched on to a mistake by Henriques and hit a first time volley from 30yards which looped over a stranded Williams. Hall was switched from left back to central midfield and The Ravens finally got a break through on when Hall was brought down in the box and despite McBean scoring from the loose ball the Referee pulled play back for the penalty. Carew tucked away the spot kick and it was 3-1 on 73mins. With only one team attacking and Weston’s defence tiring it was soon 3-2 when Hall’s shot was parried by Sawyer straight to McBean who coolly slotted home on 77mins. Bromley threw everything forward, Butler fired just over before they finally equalised on 83mins when Hall saw his deflected shot loop up off Rand and bounce into the net past a wrong footed Sawyer for 3-3. With the game now totally open both sides had chances to win the game late on Clarke & Grubb went closest for Weston, while McBean, Ferguson and Hall all saw efforts saved for The Ravens.
Bromley should never have got in the position to have to come back from 3-0 down, but despite over playing at times they kept going and showed great spirit in earning a point.
